Sent to the list because of its general interest.

Bob gave me 2 non-working FI fuel pumps at the Invasion. These were
both the very latest version, and I had rebuilt one of them. Both
pump heads were filled with brown/black solid stuff that was not the
usual stuff I find in there. I was concerned that there was a problem
with my rebuild.

I opened the motor on that pump and found it to be FULL of water
(still!) and no gas. I think it can be saved, but now it's clear what
happened to it. It was not filled with gas residue; it was filled
with residue and rust which seized everything up. That may have been
before I started selling the overflow hose kits, or you hadn't
installed one, or you installed one, but the tank already had a fair
amount of water in it.

That pump motor had a mix of water and gas in it. It was mostly gas,
but there was still enough water to cause problems and there had
probably been more at the time.

I understand. I'll try to save these and put them in my stock.
Thanks! ;-)

Thanks for the autopsy results Jim. If I remember right, I did swap the
fuel tank in my wife's car when I installed that fuel pump, only because I
was re-installing the FI on that car (after owning it for 18 years with
carbs). But the "new" tank was very clean inside when it was installed. I'll have
to take a look at the vent/overflow systems though, as I can't remember
what I did to that over the years. I do have 1 of your kits for it to install
though. : )
The other car's tank was very clean, and it also got new steel fuel lines,
as I wanted to keep the fuel system as clean as possible. That pump worked
for 2 years, until it decided 1 day to stop making pressure. However, I
was having an FI driveability issue with it that kept me from taking it to
the 2010 Invasion. But after talking with you at Carthage, I replaced the VR,
and that seemed to fix the problem I was having with it (low system voltage
causing the car to run rich, and jerky), as everything else had been
checked, and found good.
