I don't recall why - they were the upright engines of course, and probably
on a different line in the engine factory - bad batch of pistons maybe that
mostly ended up in RHD cars for UK perhaps... All conjecture. Maybe
overheating - pre cool-tin ?? I wouldn't expect that to be more of a
problem in the UK climate. I never heard the whole story.

No, I don't. Wouldn't they have been the same quality, if not the same part,
as those used in Type 3s? Or was the problem something due to too lean a
mixture?
