That may have been my problem, too, at least up to the point where 
the bulb burned out during testing. I always grease the bulb base and 
contacts, just to keep moisture out and avoid corrosion. But in this 
case, too much water had gotten into the back of the light and 
corrosion had taken quite a head start.

The rubber boot on the back of the late TS base is a real weak point 
of the late cars. The tube that brings the wires down from the 
headlight bucket always cracks, so water gets in there and follows 
the tube down into the fixture. I think we're often better off 
cutting that tube and sealing the wires with silicone. 

That whole boot and tube just seems poorly conceived.
