The feeler gauge setting is only approximate, especially with used
points. The dwell meter (assuming you trust the calibration of your
dwell meter) reading is the one to follow. Sometimes it's worthwhile
to borrow another dwell meter to see if it reads the same as yours. I
calibrated mine years ago, after it had an unrelated problem. It was
right on, but they usually have internal calibration pots and it's
possible that yours has drifted.

These were new points (that I bought from you in Carthage). After Sunday's
deal, I thought I'd replace them before heading out to Colorado. My old
points had a large gap too, but the dwell was only 45. Those points were at
least 5 years old, and were used going to Missouri and back (Bosch parts).
I'll look around, and see if I have another dwell meter, but the one I'm
using, I've had for over 20 years now, and it really only gets used once or
twice a year, otherwise it sits in the cabinet. I might try the spare
distributor that I carry for road trips, just to make sure things are working
correctly.
