Petroleum products will ruin all rubber parts so you're now commited to
using all the rebuild parts.

100 psi compressed air just won't develop enough force on those small
pistons, but the hydraulic system can produce 10x-20x that amount of
pressure.

If you can free up the bleed valve, you can put this back on the car, bleed
the system, and use the hydraulic pedal pressure to push them apart. I
generally advise rebuilding these ON the car, just because it's easier and
there are several things you won't damage if you do it this way. I seldom
need new parts if I do it this way: just hone, clean, and reassemble.

You will probably have to do one at a time, reassemble everything on that
side and then pump out the other side. Or use a C-clamp to hold the finished
cylinder together while you push apart the other side.

OK I was thinking of doing this but now you have confirmed it. Yes I knew
the diesel would mess the rubber up but since I have the kits I was
committed any way. I guess I have been a shop teacher for so long now I'm
use to taking them off so the whole class can see.
