I did check that, its in correctly, the spacing is just wrong for MPH and
unlike the Notch's MPH speedo, which has round hash marks, the Crates are
square and one of them is red at about 30MPH.

I doubt if anyone would have swapped just the guts. If a change from 
km/hr to mi/hr was mandated, they would have exchanged the whole 
speedo unit.

One other possibility is that the plastic dial got reversed (flipped 
inside out, left to right) by accident at some point, when someone 
took it apart. I did that without realizing it on my '69, and never 
noticed it until Dave finally blurted out that he couldn't tell how 
fast he was going. That was 3/4 of the way home from the first 
invasion. I was embarrased to have made that mistake, but glad that 
Dave discovered it. I fixed it as soon as we got home.

The speed markers are embossed on the INSIDE of the plastic face. If 
you can feel them on the front, the face is in there backwards. 

Put in backwards, it almost looks right, until someone points it out.
