Probably let the magic smoke out of the ignition switch. ;-) 
What you did was basically ground the battery + wire, and it tried to fry  
the ignition switch. If it still works, you got lucky, IF not, you're 
probably  looking at needing a replacement (for the electrical part of the 
switch).
