Is there some Miracle Stuff to coat or absorb into the rubber gasket to
correct this sponge effect....if that's the problem? Or is the only way to

replace the gasket? (I've done several windshield replacements before,
so
that scarey job isn't too scarey...plus I have three or four spare
windshields.)

No, there's no "miracle stuff" to coat or absorb into the rubber gasket.
If the existing gasket has fine line cracks (or larger), then it's done, and
just short of filling all the gaps with urethane will fail. At that point,
it's time for a new seal. But, finding a good seal IS the problem, as most
of the new stuff starts cracking within a year or so, and goes down hill
from there. :O IF you're really lucky, you might get more life out of it
than that, but it's really gotten to the point that the newer stuff out
there is iffy, and may or may not fir the glass correctly. ISP's seal is
made in Germany, but the glass they sell is made in China (and is thinner).
Their trim is made in the USA. Supposedly, it all works together, but right
now, the only sample they have of this combo is located in Pa, and is
garaged most of the time. :O So, feedback is nil. This is with their
"blocked" seal (molded corners), but people have reported that the trim
doesn't seem to fit correctly. YMMV.

The windshield seal as well as the rest of the window seals on Clementine is
been there for a year and come from ISP the glass is all original but most
of that time has been in the shop. They have yet to endure much of our
summers here in Alabama so time will tell but they look great now.
