I also forgot to mention; as far as backing plates goes, I will just swap the ones from my type 3. I have already purchased those new cv shafts, so I will need to make them work.

Thanks for the pointers. I will print that off and look it over when I get the transmission to figure out the final drive ratio.

I was able to find a couple of options locally, but there were risk involved. One of the options was a 300 mile round trip, and the guy was not savvy enough to even send me a picture. I was not comfortable that I was going to what was promised.

The second option was someone locally that actually has 5 type 3 auto units, but he is a bit of a cock. I would rather burn my money than give it to him. I decided that I would go to the ends of the earth before he would see my money. And it paid off...

The transmission I am getting was recently rebuilt, looks to be in great shape and is free. The person that has it took it out of his type 4 to put in a manual transmission. He had the AT behind a performance 2.4 liter and it would slip in first gear. He could not bring himself to scrap it. He decided that he would rather it go to someone. I am that someone.

So......I am going to use the auto unit of the transmission I already have and the differential of the one I am being sent. Hopefully I get one with the 3.67 final drive. If not, I will decide what I am going to do before I put it in. You have to love free parts!

Here are some links to pictures of the one that is being sent to me and my broken one. The only thing I can see that will need to be modded is the removal of the studs on either side of the diff. Other than that it looks to be plug and play.
