That trick is only for a cold engine on first startup, where one 
cylinder has flooded and needs to be "flushed out" before it will 
fire. I've used it for years, once I discovered that it cured the 
problem in one block, as opposed to normal driving for several miles.

Any of those, or a bit of dirt in the FI trigger points, or a few 
drops of water in the gas. With all the rain we've had, a bit of 
water could have gotten blown in past a worn gas cap seal.
