I agree that on a stock type 3 motor with a stock camshaft and a factory
type 3 pulley, the notch should be at 12 o'clock.

The fact of the matter is that this is a Mystery Motor. I have come across
many bug and bus motors where the notch on the pulley was on the inner lip,
on the outer lip, 2 or 3 notches versus 1 notch etc. then there are degree
pulleys which have different notching. Add to that the suggestion that a
stock pulley's notch will be offset if a hi performance camshaft has been
installed, and the only way to find that out would be to split the case and
measure the lift of the lobes with a micrometer.

I've never had any confidence in the Notch on the crank pulley. I always
find the precise TDC for #1 by looking at the #3 and then I make my own
mark at 12 O'Clock.  It sounds like this driver has done that and is
getting good results so in my humble opinion the location of the notch on
the pulley is not worthy noting.
