Dennis, it sounds like your TVS is worn out and you'll need to 
replace it. If you want to make sure, you can follow the testing 
instructions that are part of my TVS faq, or send it to me and I can 
test it for you. It's vaguely possible that I could clean something 
and get it working again, although this would likely only be a 
temporary solution.  

I believe the TVS you need is unique to Type 3s. Even if you could 
find one from another car that would kinda fit, I doubt if it would 
work correctly.  I think I have good used and NOS ones here. Let me 
know how you want to proceed and I'll check to see what I have on 
hand here. Also let me know if your '72 is an MT or AT. They may have 
been different in '72, although the difference was probably 
insignificant.
