Subject: [T3] FI to Carb conversion

Hello everyone,
The time has come. My '72 T3 1600 Fastback is going to be converted from FI
to carbs. Didn't think I'd ever do that. However, I haven't been able to
drive it for over a year and we've put around $6000 in repairs in it and
it's time. My (new) mechanic has been speaking to other classic VW mechanics
who have all said to convert. I gave him permission to do so. He said if I
could ask y'all for any information about converting it, that would help him
get it done faster. He has to research how to do it. So! If any of you have
experience, know what parts are needed, know where to get them. Any
information whether it seems insignificant or very important will be
appreciated.
Thank you,

I think part of the issue for Terrie is she has no one to service the FI on
her Fastback where she lives think. That being said I have been on both
sides of this.  When my dad first gave me my fastback in 82 it had FI with
an engine with 160K miles on it. When I had the engine rebuilt in my senior
year I went with a Holley/Weber progressive two barrel carburetor and 1641
displacement.  I thought for years this set up had a lot more power than the
stock set up. But now after the big restoration and going back with a stock
FI set up I realized it only had a little. Probably because I went from an
old engine to a fresh one.  So far I'm liking the old FI. After that system
setting up for over 30 years on another car I can't believe the only
components I've had to replace so far was the distributor, injectors, and
soon the TVS. I had a 69 automatic fastback back in the 90s (wish I still
had it). The FI was already gone when I got it and had duel carbs on it
someone had put on it. God love yall who can work with duel carbs because I
never could figure how to adjust them and just gave up and slapped my
progressive Webber on it.  Hopefully my FI on Clementine will continue to
work good if not my next choice would be mega squirt FI system because I
have worked on modern cars for too long now and when I do work on carbs it
drives me nuts.  I'm dreading working on the Solex on my son's 71 stander
beetle when we start getting in the engine on that.
