I'm afraid it CAN do worse damage. Each time they come loose, they
rattle around a little and damage the threads in the carb body a
little more. Eventually the threads strip out.
I'm told that this is what killed many of the '72-74 dual carb
busses.
The better solution is to clean up the parts and snug them up with
some LocTite in there. Do this while you still have some decent
threads in there. Let the carb sit at least overnight before you put
gas in it.
