He needs another Type 3 AT. I don't think anything else will fit. 
There were some minor changes in this AT, so the best replacements 
will come from a late '69-'71. Early 003 ATs came with torque 
converters that had fewer cooling fins, and some of them also came 
with 5-bolt flanges around the output shaft flanges. The better ones 
will not have flanges there and the later TC is more desirable. The 2 
styles of TC are otherwise interchangable.

One thing to be careful of is the vacuum modulator that's rather 
vulnerable on the bottom of the AT. If the AT gets dragged around the 
VM will get bent, and may have to be replaced. Replacement VMs MUST 
be adjusted before they will work correctly.

'72-3 ATs are very much the same, and will fit just as well, but use 
a different VM, which is much more expensive.
