[T3] Distributor ailments...

Re:  73 T-3 engine, FI, Standard...

Car started lurching badly, and needed big rev to goose it into driving ahead, and one backfire.   Then both red lights on...car stopped.
Lucky, just a look into distributor found that the little cup tab that holds the little ball against the plate was gone, as was the little ball.  The tab was broken...and it and the ball were inside the distributor....and previously bouncing around doing who knows wyat electrical mis-connections.
Lucky....had a spare points plate assembly in the trunk, and all is well...sort of.
BUT after replacing that ball and its holder...and "solving" the problem with forgetting to tighten down the timing set nut....it still ran kinda rough.
On a whim, I changed to different rotor and points...and now it seems fine...pending serious road test tomorrow.

Question is:   Could points and Rotor have been somehow electrically compromised by that broken tab part, and the little ball, bouncing around in the distributor for a mile or so?  Maybe trigger contacts too?
