You do have an External Hard Drive, don't you?
Just make an entire image (programs and data) from your XP machine to the
External Hard Drive; then copy everything from the hard drive to your #2
machine, running Win 7.

Computer gurus recommend that everyone should have an External Hard Drive
with (at least) a monthly back-up copy of DATA plus a Back-Up Plan to
retrieve your data.

Everyone has heard: "It's not IF your laptop will fail. It's WHEN it will
fail."
One step to delay a machine failure is to keep it clean. Remove the "dust
bunnies".

Regarding being able to retrieve programs and data ... one plan which makes
sense to me is:
1.) Buy a 1-to-4 Terra-byte External Hard Drive. ($70.00 to $130.00)
2.) Month one: make an entire copy of ALL installed PROGRAMS and DATA to
the External Hard Drive;
3.) Months two through twelve: make a copy of ALL your DATA to your E.H.D.
4.) Month thirteen: copy data to the E.H.D. & delete data from month TWO
on the E.H.D.
NEVER "dump" the copy of Month One (Programs and Data) on the E.H.D.
5.) Month 14, 15, 16, etc.: "Dump" the DATA ONLY of month 3, 4, 5, etc. on
your E.H.D.

With a plan like this, you will always be able to retrieve the last twelve
months of data.

WHEN your machine fails, the most data you will ever lose, will be the last
30 days.
Your E.H.D. will always have your installed Programs and the 12 previous
months of Data.

Back-ups require a monthly discipline. But you can schedule your machine
to either
A.) remind you OR
B.) do the monthly copies automatically at say, 3:00 AM on a day (maybe
the first day of each month) which you pick.
