Those steel lines were galvanized on the outside, but there's no way to
treat them inside, so they rust inside much sooner than on the outside. If
those lines are still clear, that's great, but keep in mind that they may
not stay that way.

If you buy one of my overflow kits, to repair your OE one that is cracked,
I include a kit to bypass the OE vent line to the rear. If you've
installed that kit, your charcoal cannister is now moot. If you haven't
fixed your overflow hose, you should do that soon. I can sell you the
overflow kit, without the vent kit, at a reduced price, but you need to be
sure that your vent lines are clear.

One way or another, your tank needs a vent, to let air in as gas is
consumed. In most of the '70-3 cars, the only vent is the cracks in the
overflow hose or a leaky gas cap. If the overflow hose is fixed, you
really need to make sure you still have a viable vent path.
