[T3] Starting Problem

OK.  So I had to replace a head this weekend; the #3 exhaust valve had sunk about 1/2" (I'll upload the gory pics later).
I got everything back together, and now when it try to start it will crank like it's trying to start then will suddenly kick back.  It doesn't backfire, it just sort of locks on one cylinder then cranks more slowly after that.
What have I got wrong?
