[T3] pop-out windows on a fastback

Yeah, it's ths same reason bridge beams start out arched, even concrete can flex a little over large spans (at least that's what they taught us in architectural engineering, but getting the tension right still seems to be more art than science so we get roller-coaster bridges).

I still think they were high when they decided to flex the window, which required a complex custom gasket, instead of putting in a 30 cent hinge.  I won't get started on having an operable window with the mechanism so far back that you have to crawl into the back seat of a 2-door car to open it.

Jim I have seen them flatbed trailers fully loaded and yes they are flat.
I worked for a heavy equipment company and it was always interesting to watch them load stuff on the flat beds and see how much the arch would disappear.
I completely agree with you on the flexing glass thing.

Another example is the wings of an aircraft. They are designed to flex and flex a lot more than one would imagine.

I view it as a perfect example of great engineering. They bend, but they never break. Those guys knew EXACTLY what they were doing.

We all tend to think of materials as falling strictly into 2 groups:
rigid or flexible. But nothing is perfectly rigid; everything's flexible to some extent; it's just a matter of degree. I tend to think about this every time I see one of those aluminum flatbed semi-trailers. Notice that they usually have quite a bit of arch to them, but I'll bet they're flat when they're loaded to their full capacity.
