Our "tour" of the US Southwest was longer and dryer, but they don't
get nearly as the much of the color that we enjoy in the more
temperate parts of the US. Nice pictures, John. Back here at home we
have oak trees, which only turn brown, but the last 500 miles thru
Nebraska and Iowa had lots of the yellow and red from maple and
sumac. Driving thru Nebraska, it was also interesting to be able to
see exactly where the Platt river was by the yellow leaves of the
cottonwood trees that follow that riverbed.

The last day we were driving just behind a rain front that seemed to
be keeping pace just ahead of us, so most of our last day's driving
had lots of green as well as the fall tree colors. Arriving in
Madison, we find our neighborhood carpeted in wet, brown oak leaves,
with just a few more colorful standouts.
