I did that to mine 25 years ago, always irritated me that both 
arrows flashed.

I've seen a mod to make the correct light flash for the direction selected -
not too hard to figure out, but not really necessary!  That tab would come
in handy with the connecting wire snipped and extra wires added, if you
really wanted to have that feature.

 As for that one seemingly missing connector tab I was wondering about, in
tracing the wires (as Bentley doesn't depict the back side of the lamp base
with the tabs) I can see that this is the left turn signal bulb, connected
by a soldered wire inside the face to the right bulb, which has the
connector. 

My work is cut out for me.
