"If you can't get the shift lever in the right place by moving the
lever base, the problem MIGHT be due to the tranny (or just the
"hockey stick", being replaced by a Bug part."

Can you explain this further? I will try adjusting first. I will look at
the bushing too.

Here is what I am experiencing: First hear is hard to get into and far
right at almost dead center. 2nd gear grinds if you jump into it fast and
grinds on every downshift. I adjusted a bit and it got a little worse. It
will now try and fall into reverse without the down push. 3rd and 4th work
as they should. They are just way far right.

The transmission was rebuilt and "freeway flier" gears put in. There was
talk of welding some gears. I understand that is usually 3 rd and 4th, but
the PO said something about 2nd gear and that it was for the freeway flier
part? I don't know much about flyer transmission builds or procedures.
Maybe someone could educate me.

Like I said, I will adjust again. Can anyone let me know what the procedure
is? I am about to open up my FSM and read there.

I will also see what it say about the shift bushing. I have read a few
different people saying that will take car of a lot of unruly shifting. I
would also like to know about the "hockey stick" that Jim was talking about.

I will also have to locate the reverse switch/ wire on the tranny and get
my reverse lights hooked up. After cleaning up some wiring this evening, I
think I am going to be chasing a lit of that around to clean up splices and
such. I need to get a heat gun, find my soldering iron and some shrink
tubing.
