No, I meant to torque the nuts on the end of the head studs, with the 
heads in place--exactly the process you would go thru when assembling 
the engine.

If you have case savers, you won't have a head stud problem, but note 
that there are 2 kinds of head studs possible: 8 mm or 10 mm threads. 
10 mm was the stock size and the torque for them will be in the Type 
3 Bentley. If your case savers are for the 8 mm studs, you need the 8 
mm torque, which you can find in the Type 1 Bentley.

Looking at those surfaces in your photos, I thought they were all 
sealing decently. You can lap them if you like, but if they are all 
reasonably clean, I usually don't bother, but I do make sure the 
surfaces are all in a plane (flat.)
