Today as hot as it is I checked all the CV joint bolts and they were tight at 25 ft lb's .

I also checked the torque coverter to the flex plate and one was a tiny bit loose .

Just for fun I pulled on both Diff axle flanges and had no in/ out play yet on the left side I did feel a bit of up/down movement which I noticed in 2009 yet it has not gotten worse. These are spline fit into the Diff side gears there may be a bit on the right side as well but not much that I could feel.

It's difficult to tell how much play with out measuring it .

In the Bentley there are two photo's of the diff showing the flanged shafts . The left side is on the governer side and in both photo's they show the right being longer . In the text they say the left side is longer. Since the right flange shaft has to reach further through the ring gear side I assume the photo's are correct and the text wrong . If the left is shorter then this may be why I feel this play. I am not going to worry about it now . I do have another Diff complete and have no idea if the flanged shaft splines are worn a bit or the left side gear splines. I don't really feel any rotational play bearing in mind with the park brake on and the special socket in one of the CV joint bolts at the trans end and trying to turn it back and forth I don't feel any play.

I cleaned off as much crud as I could off the outside of the Diff housing , most was dry stuff that came free in large flakes.

The trans pan has a film of trans fluid or road oil . I could not tell if the governer O-ring was leaking yet this area was more wet as was the rubber boot over the shift cable which is right under that area.

I tried to break the Diff filler plug loose using a 3/8" drive breaker bar no go. I did have it out in 97 . Is there any cause for concern removing the drain plug at the bottom of the diff? I didn't try , just thought maybe could the Diff case thread's come out with the drain plug? Both plugs have no rust and the drain plug did have what appeared to be a bit of some sort of oily stuff on it.
