Here's what the US got in '72 and '73:

1972 Type 3s

	Brain:
		VW 311 906 021 E / Bosch 0 280 000 028
	Pressure sensor:
		VW 311 906 021 E / Bosch 0 280 100 106
	Distributor:
		MT: VW 311 905 205 AE / Bosch 0 231 172 009 (dual vac can)
		AT: VW 311 905 205 AF / Bosch 0 231 172 011 (dual vac can)

1973 Type 3s

	Brain:
		VW 311 906 021 E / Bosch 0 280 000 048
	Pressure Sensor:
		VW 311 906 021 E / Bosch 0 280 100 116
	Distributor:
		MT: VW 311 905 205 AG / Bosch 0 231 163 027 (single vac can)
		AT: VW 311 905 205 AH / Bosch 0 231 163 029 (single vac can)

The dual vac can has different mounting holes, so that you can't 
mount it on anything other than an AE or AF. And you can't mount the 
single can on an AE or AF body. (Of course, you CAN modify the body 
or the can and MAKE these fit, but Bosch made this difficult on 
purpose. This was probably an EPA requirement.)
