Only AT cars came with the threaded throttle cable end. It was an 
additional feature that made it easier to adjust the throttle for the 
AT-only kickdown switch. But, for decades now, the threaded version 
has been the only replacement available. If you find an MT car with 
the threaded end cable, you know it's been replaced.

Daniel's throttle position probably doesn't explain his lack of 
power, as there's very little extra air let in by that last bit of 
movement.
