If my daughter was driving a VW with a worn out engine I wouldn't waste the
time/effort to rebuild the engine myself.  It isn't really comparable to
rebuilding straight 4-6 cylinder engines for the tooling & experience
necessary to do a quality job with a warranty.  It cost me $3500 to have
mine rebuilt in a month 3 years ago & it hasn't leaked a drop of oil.
