First thing to check is to make sure there is a bit of clutch pedal free play.

It's normal for the bottom of the case to be dirty/oily. It's an accumulation from years of tiny, 
insignificant leaks.

At the bottom center of the tranny/engine joint there is a small space you can stick a finger 
up. You should be able to feel if it's wet up there and if the outside of the flywheel is wet. 
Keep in mind that dirty is normal, but if there's a leak it will be wet. An active leak generally 
washes its area clean (and wet.)
