[T3] Type 3 front break calipers

Sorry should have been more clear about the bump. I was referring to a casting bump that will be found on aftermarket replacements on the side that faces the rim. I have a set of original Bug clippers that have no casting bump and a set of new ones that do. The set I have that are in question do have duel blead valves as well as a tube that connects each side of the caliper.

Now that you mention it I think the ones on the 72 only have a single blead valve will verify that in the morning. If it's true I probably have the wrong ones on there to begin with yikes. I will take pictures of the ones I have and post them.

Thanks Jim,
Daniel Du Vall

Type 3 calipers have 42 mm pistons and each piston will have that little bump in the center, facing the pad. There are 2 versions, early and late. Late calipers take larger pads and have larger attaching bolts which are spaced farther apart.
The late calipers also have 2 bleed valves. Non-Type 3 pistons will be "hollow."

If your problem is a hose problem, the bleed valve will maybe just barely drip when you open it. If the hose is good, fluid will flow freely out of the bleed valve (assuming the bleed valve itself is not clogged with dirt/rust.
