Check the 4-way flashers with the key both ON and OFF. Make SURE that
all 4 outside bulbs flash in each case.
If all 4 outside bulbs flash properly then the bulbs AND the flasher relay are
good.
There seemed to be several wiring changes in the '71 MY, so it's possible
that the TS power is coming from a different fuse than stated in the manual,
so check fuses 10 thru 12. Note that our fuses can have a nearly invisible
break in the middle of the metal strip.
The TS/flasher circuit is quite complicated, but the end result is that the TSs
work only when the key is ON and the TS switch works by connecting the
(already powered) flasher relay to either the L or R bulbs. On a '71 or later
you can mimic this connection by unplugging the connector at the bottom of
the steering column and shorting between the correct pins, based on the
wire colors. Or just check that connector to make sure that all the pins, of
both sexes, are present and have not been pushed back inside the
connector.
If you've taken the switch area apart, you may have let things get out of
place. There are spring loaded parts in there that will get out of place and
can be a real pain to put back together properly. This is not a good place to
do cobble job repairs. Unfortunatly, I think this is another one year only part,
and hard to find. If yours is bad, I MAY be able to fix it, but it's a difficult job
that takes a long time, so it's expensive.
