Several times now, the kids of my past have returned in their late teens to
have me
teach them how to drive a manual, so they could buy that car they wanted.
The Squareback took the brunt of manual driving lessons for years but as she
aged I started having these kids learn on their OWN cars :-)

I done a poll in one of my classes yesterday just for the heck of it. I've
done these in the past with these questions. The first one was how many
drive a car with a manual trans? Out of about 15 students who are 15-19 year
old boys two raised their hands. Then I asked who can actually drive a
manual? About half raised their hands. That's the highest % I've ever had.
Usually it's lower. You do have to take in consideration the source. Some
times it's hard to get a straight answer from these kids. One year I had a
dune buggy we were working on and I asked a student if he could drive a
manual and he said yes. I soon found out he could not.
