The sister of a casual European acquaintance of mine fell victim to the
disease, while closer to home a friend's friend's father died from it.

My state (CA) has a current reported per-capita infection rate at only 8%
of New York's, and my part of the state began shelter-in-place very
early, so we have lower rates than the state as a whole. (So, for my
region, likely under one tenth of one percent.) Also, as in many states,
roughly 40% of deaths are residents or staff of eldercare homes, and I
currently don't have any close relations in those categories.

I am fortunate enough to continue my work for now, and to do so
sheltered-in-place at home. I would very much prefer to be working normally
on-site with colleagues, but am thankful to be employed at all at this
point.
