[T3] Reverse lockout (Larry Thrasher)

I have the exact problem.
I have changed the plate and it still happens.
The 71 fastback was my brothers and then my dad's and they didn't have the
problem.
The car sat with the engine out for years with the gearbox supported.
Please help me find the answer
