Quick FYI: ALL shocks have oil in them. Gas shocks have a separate
compressed gas chamber that keeps the oil inside compressed, so it can't
get churned up, turn to foam, and stop working. The extra pressure does add
a bit of lift to the shock, but it's not noticable once it's installed on the car.

The different amounts of stiffness are made by changing the diameter of the
piston and the strength of the valves that let oil pass thru the piston. Yes, it's
common for aftermarket shocks, especially front shocks, sold for our cars to
be too stiff.

If someone will remind me, I'll bring a disassembled Bilstein to the next
invasion.
