Volvo is a good idea, I need to investigate and see if I can mod one, I do
have one that I opened and glued back together.

Sounds like one of them may have been sticky: staying closed until engine
warmth and vibration opened it up.

If 2x AAR is too much, perhaps you could follow it with something with an
orifice that you could change to limit the max airflow.

Or just explore the Volvo world to see what they used.
