[T3] Looking to return the favor

Hello all,
Well, I think the time has come to part with my ‘73 Fastback, but I have very specific requirements about the new owner. Let me tell you a story first:
When I was a teenager, I worked at our local Scout office, and had a great boss there. This guy knew that I’d always wanted a CW Beetle, and also knew that one of the district council members (who was a neighbor of mine) had one sitting in his garage, needing work but all there. Well, after some discussions facilitated by my boss, those neighbors just gave me the ‘74 Superbeetle…and that started my 35 year interest in VWs.
While we still have a ‘75 Westy, I think it’s time for me to say goodbye to our ‘73 Fastback, and I’d like to give it away to a young person who has a genuine interest in cars and VWs, but maybe doesn’t yet have the cash to afford one. Maybe it’s one of your kids or grandkids.
Now for the car - it looks quite good in the L61B Sumatra Green repaint, with nice chrome and decent seats. It’s fully functional, and the original FI engine runs decently (a little surging at highway speeds) and has about 70K miles on it. I’ve owned it since ‘97 and replaced the rockers on it once…but they might be getting a little crispy again. The car has been hit 3 times before - it’ll never be a show car or worth very much. The doors fully close but don’t make an airtight seal…stuff like that. It tracks straight. All the metal is solid…I welded in good metal after each incident…so no Bondo. It has solid floors, fog lights, Bluetooth. Fan doesn’t work. Likely has an oil leak from one of the left side pushrod tubes - the adult fixed though the heat exchanger could use a good degreasing. Great wheels and new tires. Currently registered and could be inspected. Likely due for new fuel hoses - maybe the only reason I wouldn’t just jump in and drive it anywhere.
After selling a type 3 in the past that ended up in a scrap yard, I’m hoping the recipient takes better care of this. Have some parts I can send home with it too.
Car is located in Falls Church, VA, USA just outside of DC. Pick up is here. Yes, you might be able to drive it home depending on the distance but I’d definitely have a chase car. I can help with the fuel hose replacement if needed before the drive.
Anyway, if you know of a recipient candidate, I’d like for that person to tell me a little bit about themselves and why they want the car. You can email me at dougbrashear at yahoo.com with that info.
I know I could sell this for $1-2K but would rather see it go to a budding enthusiast.
Thanks,- Doug :-)
