[T3] An old flasher problem I've never been able to figure out

I took out the lever assy. and it was pretty dirty.  Unfortunately the 
contacts are ungetatable.  I just sprayed some contact cleaner in there 
and worked the switch, sprayed and worked and sprayed and worked.  
Unfortunately I washed away any grease that was in there so I applied 
some where I think it should be, the auto cancelling mechanism and the 
pivot point of the lever itself.  I hope that does it.

LATER THAT DAY.

Well, It didn't.  I made a trip of about a mile and it worked on the 
outbound leg but not on the return leg which was only about 15 minutes 
later.  Just on a lark I decided to try the emergency flashers for a 
second and they worked.   After this the turn signals started working 
again.  I just don't get it?
