[T3] Mystery when replacing 1/2 shaft

Hi all -

I got my axle out and am cleaning up the CV joints, reassembling, etc.  I
haven't had much time to finish the job yet but I wanted to ask about
something curious.  When I removed the RR 1/2 shaft, on the tranny end of
the axle, a small disc fell down on the ground.  I didn't see it fall so I
don't know where it goes.  My only guess is that it was between the CV joint
and where it mates on the tranny.  However, I can't seem to find it
referenced in the Bentley.  It's like a cap almost and is slightly larger
than a US quarter.  What would this be and do I reinstall it?  I was
wondering if it was something that should actually be there.

If no one knows what I'm talking about, I can take a picture of it tonight
and post.

There was NOT one on the "wheel" side of the axle.
