That will be helpful, but keep in mind that it will be larger and 
somewhat heavier once it is boxed.

They didn't get a VW part number stamped on them unless they were 
sold thru the VW distribution network. This is probably a later 
replacement pump, sold by a Bosch dealer. It should be a good pump 
with a correct Bosch part number.

Not sure what the whole picture is, but it's probably a good sign. I 
gather that you got a spark and the shock came when you disconnected 
the wire and the inductance thru the armature gave you an inductive 
kick that was what you felt.

If you want to send both to me that would probably make sure that I 
could rebuild you at least one good one.
