[T3] Ok all you carb experts...

OK, today I took my own advice and pulled the plugs and cleaned them, to
make sure that it wasn't an ignition issue. They were black, but once
cleaned it still ran poorly, it would start and idle with the chokes on, but
rough, but then after they came off no idle, and rough when I raised the
RPM.

One thing I remember was that when I first got it going the floats seemed
stuck closed, carbs didn't fill when I got fuel pressure, so a tapping and
they filled.

So I pulled the tops off, right carb looked like the gas level was a little
high, no dirt in the bowls, I pulled the float valves and cleaned them with
some choke cleaner, the blew some thru the passages that I could get to with
the top off and reassembled things. Pulled the top off the fuel pump and
there was some dirt in the inlet side of the screen, how'd that get there?
The filter is on the line just before it and that looks clean...

Anywho, started it up and it ran and idled properly again, I guess
something was stuck somewhere or the float valves were leaking and flooding
it out.

WITH IT RUNNING PROPERLY though... one thing I notice is that when you raise
the RPM to 2500 or so and look into the carbs, there is a nice sprits of gas
coming out of the main jet on the left carb but NOTHING on the right, is
that Normal to see when your running it at RPM with no load?? They are
sync'd but probably not perfectly.

Ahhh Carbs!

Keith

This spring I got it running, adjusted and sync'd the carbs and it ran and
idled perfectly. Drove it a couple miles, no problem. Now after having
it
in and out of the garage a few times its back to the same problem, no idle,
will accelerate if pumped but not with the throttle just opened, sometimes
it would idle a bit on the left carb but nothing from the right. I can
floor it sometimes and it will just bog down and very slowly recover.

What I know is right.
Has good fuel pressure
Carbs are all clear, or they were anyway.
It's a 65 with no idle cutoffs, so its not that.
Vacuum advance works properly, stock dizzy. good spark.
Adjusted and sync'd properly, as it was running and idling perfectly just a
couple weeks ago.

Im at a loss. had these things apart and found nothing, don't want to pull
them apart again as I cant get the gasket kits anylonger and it didn't
solve
the problem anyway.

I HATE CARBS! Woulda had this fixed if it were FI.. :-)

Any ideas??

Sounds like it's ingested something in the right carb. How clean were the
fuel line and fuel tank? Is the fuel filter still clean, or is there trash
in it? I know you probably checked these things, but...
