[T3] VW Part Numbers

The numbering system is logical (of course - it is German!).

'311' is Type/Model '8' is main group (body) '81' is sub-group (front seat
and backrest) '165' is part ID (adjusting cams left) and 'A' is the
modification.

Years ago I started scanning in the parts book - didn't get too far - but
the index has the group/subgroup list:-

The Type/Model is what it was first used on, so may not match your model
number.

The part ID is generally an odd number if left-hand or either, and an even
number if right-hand only.

It takes a while to get used to the 'language'.

Subject: [T3] VW Part Numbers

*I have a bunch of plastic bags that had VW Parts in them.

Is there a rhyme or reason to the identification numbers?

The parts came from a long-time VW dealer ... Ernie Von Schledorn in
Milwaukee, WI ... but I probably took the part out of the bag and installed
it.

But I don't have any way to know what part is described by a particular
part number.

Example: 311 881 165A What is the part name?

Would a VW Microfiche identify the part name?
Or would it be "Like hunting (the Microfiche) for a needle in a haystack?"
