Well like Jim said, it’s a matter of physics and VW wouldn’t have put it on
there in hot climates if it weren’t absolutely necessary,

All the VW guys Ive talked to over the past 30 years or so say pretty much
the same thing, no thermostat and you get about half the life out of your
engine, and ive found that to be true on the cars ive had interaction with
that didn’t have a thermostat, they were shot at about 60 or 70K mi.

Now if your doing entirely highway driving in a moderate climate... your
numbers will be better.

My 125,000 mile 1904cc engine disagees w/ that statement Keith.
Sorry, no thermostat in it.
