The OG wheels were 4-1/2" wide, which is a little narrow for 195s. 
You could probably get away with 185s, but you'd want to use lower 
profile tires or they will be too tall. 185/70s would probably be 
about the same diameter as the stock 165s, so your speedometer would 
be correct again, but I don't know if you'll get a 185 in the spare 
tire well.  

185s will clear the rear fenders, but you'll have rubbing in front on 
hard turns. This even happens to some degree on many of the cars with 
the stock tires.

If you go with aftermarket wheels your options change. You'll 
probably get less offset which will help the rubbing in front, but in 
back the 185s will probably rub on the outside.

There are lots of people on this list who have more experience with 
this than I do.
