>From time to time, I have experienced a puff of blue smoke on start-up, but
it usually stops doing it a few weeks later. Although they say to set the
ring gaps at the top, and 120 degrees to either side, in practice they tend
to move round anyway! Just occasionally, all the gaps line up and allow a
dribble of oil to leak into the upper part of the cylinder, producing a puff
of blue when you next start up.

Unless you're experiencing a drop in oil level, or smoke while on the
journey, it doesn't indicate a problem. A high oil level and parking on a
side slope may make it more likely to happen.

Subject: [T3] cylinder head, rings and mufflers

i may have missed some responses as some of these go to spam. i am replacing
the cylinder head because of a bad valve as previously mentioned. since the
engine was rebuilt it blows out a large blue cloud when starting up after
sitting for a while. i assume the rings were set wrong and figured i would
take a look at them while i had the engine down but as someone mentioned
that can lead to more problems. if the plugs on that side(right) look ok
perhaps i should leave it be. finally, i need to replace the muffler. any
recommendations on after market mufflers?? something discreet that might
improve performance.  thanks. kk
