[T3] winter project

i bought a used engine because i wanted a winter project and i am tired of my current engine( a rebuilt brazilian case that rocks the whole car until it warms up). the guy said it ran fine when he took it out of the car, a 67 square. i wanted to hook it up and check the compression and so far all i have done is short out the battery, didnt realize i needed to ground the battery also, i am thinking using a jumper cable to the car body should work. So far i have noticed that there is a timing mark at 180 degrees ie opposite of TDC and the number one spark plug is at 10 oclock on the distributor cap. i guess i will be asking a lot of questions, hope they arent too amateurish but i have to do a lot of things i normally wouldnt be doing because there is no one reliable to do the work any more. thanks. kk
