There are several possibilities. The irreplacable '71 ignition switch 
is certainly a possibility, but there are others to check first.

Somewhere between the switch and the battery there is an inline 
connector in that wire. It's under the carpet on the right side of 
the hump. Find it and make sure it's connected securely. It probably 
is.

There is a cable connector that plugs into the front (front is front) 
of the ignition switch. Make sure none of the contacts in that 
connector have backed out and are no longer making contact.

If it's the switch, I may be able to save it, but the '71 switch is 
tricky to remove without damaging it further, so ask here first.
