As I dive deeper into the Squares Engine, it seems that it has the
incorrect distributor. It has an 009. The correct one would be a vacuum advance
unit with the correct curve for both idle and advance. The engine is a 1600
with duel Solix 32 PDSIT. The left carburetor has the vacuum fitting.
Question, Which distributors should I be looking for? I have one from a
912 in my bag of stuff.
Two, any sellers out there?
I believe once the correct distributor is installed and the engine timed,
the idle can be lowered to where it should be.
What you're looking for is a 311 905 205 F. An E or N will also work. These
are vacuum advance only distributors. You'll have to search the Samba
classifieds for 1 though.
What I'm running on my 65 with dual Solex carbs is an SVDA from
Aircooled.net . I don't exactly know the part number, but it does have both
mechanical advance, and vacuum advance. If you don't like the 009, an 019 is a
better choice, but they're harder to find.
Leave the one for the 912 in the bag, or sell it to someone who's looking
for 1. ;-) I hope this helps.
