[T3] Sagging Door & Thermostat Parts

So, I've got a question on repair possibilities and about parts availability. First, my driver side door is a bit out or whack in that the outer edge (where it latches) sags a bit. When I close it, it lifts up into place on the latch plastic block but it doesn't seal properly and I get water in when it rains (and we're in the rainy season now). I've tried adjusting the striker plate and also moved the hinges in and out, all to no avail. After poking around some more and having a friend check out the hinges while I lifted the door edge up and down, I'm pretty convinced that the top hinge pin is worn and as such has excessive play.

So, my question on repair is has anyone replaced the hinge pin/ hinge and how might I go about it? I looked inside the door and from what I could see, the inner door structure blocks access to the hinge mounts. In the jamb, I can't see a way to get the hinge pin out because the outer door skin curves over the pin/hinge pivot. Driving it up would wind up hitting the outer door metal and driving down doesn't seem possible because a punch wouldn't be able to get in there and drive straight. I looked at the parts book on the type 3 wiki and the schematic shows the hinge exploded and off the door but I'm not seeing how to get it off from the inside. Any thoughts, suggestions? I'm going to try to get a better look inside the door but I thought I'd run it by the list, too.

On my parts question, I'm trying to restore my engine's thermostat system, which was almost completely removed when the previous owner had a rebuilt engine put in. I still have the flaps in the fan housing and I recently picked up a thermostat bracket and the lower vertical linkage (from the thermo to the 'intermediate lever' pivot). I'm missing the pivot (and it's bracket) that bolts to the top of the head, the horizontal linkage rod to the flaps, the spring that returns the flaps to open, and a good thermostat. Any chance anyone has these parts that they would part with. The local VW junk guy doesn't have them and shops I've check with all just throw the whole lot out (!).

Sorry for piling the two topics together, I figured it would make for fewer email threads.

Thanks,

Jeremy
