That harness appears to run inside the L rocker, even on '69 Notches,
so that's one more thing that VW kept different on the later Notches.
I couldn't see where that wire might be broken. Is there somewhere
that it might be more vulnerable?

The Notchback kept that set up from 61 to 73. It even kept the early style
heater outlet covers, and 3 bolt door hinges.

There are probably 3 places that are vulnerable on Notchbacks and early
Squares (that also ran the wiring harness outside of the car), they are the
front of the rocker, the rear of the rocker (VW used a tube at each end), and
where the harness entered the cabin at the "A" pillar, behind the front
fender. On the FI cars, you could even add were the VR wiring harness enters
the body behind the rear fender (like early 71 Squares and Fastbacks and
earlier cars use, but with a smaller hole). The last 2 points use a grommet
for the harness.
